Brooke Hoffman
Penn Treaty School students, alumni, and teachers have been planting trees with Philly Tree People for over 10 years! Now the second generation is involved, as teachers' kids have joined the efforts! Soon, children of our alumni will join us! As a result, we now bring kid-sized tools so that everyone can contribute. A few highlights: (a) One year, students who were taking an environmental science class at Penn Treaty joined us. Through their coursework, they were (understandably) concerned about the future of our planet. Planting trees was a great way for them to take action. (b) This year Brooke Hoffman, a previous Penn Treaty teacher, got a tree in front of her house. It is the 1st tree on her block! (c) Usually, at least one person in our #PennTreaty group wins a prize at the lunch. One year a bunch of students won. We felt so lucky! (d) Every fall and spring, we see familiar faces and make new friends. (e) It's a great way for our students to get community service hours (required for Philadelphia students) as they make a difference in their own neighborhoods. (f) One year, we planted an extra tree on the Penn Treaty School property in honor of a young woman who had passed away. Our biology teacher and her students continue to look out for the tree.
